One of the classic Lake District mountaineering routes, The striding edge ridge is popular and very famous and theres a good reason for it .

In all but the very best conditions this iconic mountain ridge can be a scary and daunting experience and should not be underestimated ! With extreme levels of exposure and mouth watering drops this classic mountain ridge will get your heart racing for sure.

Route Discription

Although not the longest route in the Lake this walk does pack a punch with some high levels of exposure. 

Departing Glenriding village we will follow a nice path up to Lantys tarn, where we will follow the ridge on to Birkhouse Moor and start the fun part of the walk start ... Striding edge  will follow the ridge making way through the exposed rock sections until we arrive at the final steep climb to the summit of Helvellyn. 

From the summit of Helvellyn we head eastwards to and down the second mountain ridge of the day Swirrals edge along on to the summit of Castycam ridge from here will have great views over Ullswater, striding edge and back across to Red tarn . The grassy decents will lead us back to the main path down to Glenriding

    How fit do I need to be ?

    • It depends on the walk that would like to do, We ask that everyone has a basic level of fitness and books a walk that is suitable to there fitness levels . We are more than happy to have a chat with you if your unsure. 

    Do I need my own transport? 

    •  We ask that people arrange there own transport however if you struggling we are more than happy to offers you a lift to and from a central location. Alternatively if there is a large group we can arrange transport to suit that .
